| Choreographer Ji? Kyli?ns work frequently manages to delve deeply into the mysteries of human existence, revealing its hidden aspects. His kinetic imagination vividly conjures up moods and situations of such intensity that the dance becomes an ideal medium for posing important existential questions and delving into social phenomena. This Blu-ray presents three early ballets by of one of the most important choreographers of our time. Stravinskys Les Noces (Svadebka) pictures the ceremony of a traditional Russian country wedding. The music, with its fast pace and intricate rhythmic structures, presents the composers greatest choreographic challenge. Ji? Kyli?ns ballet set to Stravinskys Symphony of Psalms captures the archaic power of the music. A post-68 Czech exile, Ji? Kyli?n was moved to create Torso (Music: T?ru Takemitsu) by the plight of the Russian dancers Valery and Galina Panov, who found asylum in Israel. Ji? Kyli?n has succeeded in imposing his unmistakable vision of contemporary ballet with the force of genius and grace. (Lifetime achievement award for Ji?
